Bio

Lindsey Barlag Thornton Artist Statement / Bio

I was an extremely curious child. I wanted to be an archeologist, or a saint.
I built forts in my backwoods, collected fossils, devoured science fiction, and often studied in the high school library during lunch.

I am still that curious creature asking questions about the world and now exploring these questions through an inter-disciplinary artistic practice. All of my artistic work points to the sky – asking the larger questions, metaphysical and existential, through an examination of our very real, extremely nuanced, daily lives we live out together on earth.

Originally from Ohio, I have called Chicago home for ten years. I graduated in 2014 from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago with an MFA in Performance. I am an educator and currently work as a movement teacher for ChiArts, Chicago’s only public arts high school, as a teaching artist for The Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, and as Director of GiftED for the The Gift Theatre Company. At times I work collaboratively under the name Genesis with Amanda Dunne Acevedo. I am a proud resident of Jefferson Park where I live in a brightly painted home with Michael Patrick Thornton. http://www.lindseybarlagthornton.com
